Bountiful has announced plans for their forthcoming Downtown Plaza, which will include an outdoor ice skating path, stage, water feature, open green space, concessions and more. The plaza will be located between Historic Main Street and 100 East, and South of 100 South in Bountiful, Utah.
Construction for the Bountiful Downtown Plaza will begin in early 2019, with an expected opening in fall of 2019. The ice skating ribbon will be constructed by Bountiful City and managed by Bountiful Davis Recreation Center.
The 8,500 square foot ice ribbon will operate from mid-November through February, weather permitting. During the summer months it’s anticipated that the concrete path will cater to walkers and roller skaters.
Bountiful City Mayor’s Remarks
Mayor Randy Lewis expects the Plaza and ice ribbon to be a major draw to Bountiful. “We are thrilled about the activity the ice ribbon will bring to Downtown,” he said. “With the addition, the new Plaza will be a unique, year-round attraction for our historic Main Street.”
What are Bountiful City’s goals for the Downtown Plaza?
- Goal 1 – Add Vitality to Bountiful’s Historic Downtown
- Goal 2 – Generate Activity to support Main Street Businesses
- Goal 3- Design a Great Place for Families to Enjoy Everyday Fun
- Goal 4 – Add Space to Accommodate and Grow Special Community Events
- Goal 5 – Honor the Character and History of Bountiful
A valid question that Bountiful City residents may have is how is this paid for? Funding is a result of prudent savings, voter-approved RAP (Recreation Arts & Parks) tax revenues and an extension of the RDAs Redevelopment Area. Taxes will not be raised to fund the Plaza.
